Deborah Wheeler moved to Newport ten years ago, after working for six years in London for Zandra Rhodes and then two and a half years for Skopos in Yorkshire, designing printed fabrics. When she came to Newport she was impressed by the first Diverse Manners exhibition and asked to join the group. In her nine years with the group she has covered many varying and challenging themes such as domestic abuse, injustice, sexuality and gender issues, using embroidery as her medium of expression. She has also been inspired by the beauty in creation and the surrounding countryside. Deborah uses her love of embroidery as a form of worship, in the hope that she will challenge people’s views and opinions and also celebrate God.
